Born in 1947, Prof. Robert LAURINI is full distinguished professor at the National Institute for Applied Sciences (INSA-Lyon), and more precisely at the Computing Department and at the LIRIS Laboratory in which he is in charge of international affairs. He speaks fluently French, English, Italian and Spanish.
Previously, he carried out researches at the University of Cambridge, Martin Center for Architectural and Urban Systems, UK (1976-1977) and at the University of Maryland (Center for Automation Research, USA) (1986-1987). He was teaching at Computing Departement of the University Institute of Technology, Claude Bernard University of Lyon during several years. During five years, he was head of the Laboratory for Information System Engineering (LISI), shared by to the National Institute for Applied Sciences (INSA) and Claude Bernard University of Lyon, France. From 2001 to 2004, he was head of SIGMA / CASSINI, French CNRS Federation on Geographic Information Systems. Until recently, he was deputy head of the LIRIS Research Center for Images and Information Systems from January 2003 to December 2006, vice-president of the INSA Board of Regents from November 2002 to November 2006. From 2004 to September 2007, he was head of Lyon Research-Oriented Master Degree in Computing.
He is also member of ACM and of IEEE Computer Society. In November 1998, he received an ACM award for Technical Contributions and Leadership. He is chairman of the ACM GIS Symposium steering committee.

He has co-authored 5 books, out of which "Ingénierie des Connaissances Spatiales", "Fundamentals of Spatial Information Systems" and "Les bases de données en géomatique". The last book entitled "Information Systems for Urban Planning, A Hypermedia Cooperative Approach" was issued in February 2001.
He also teaches at the University of Venice (IUAV), Italy.

Né en 1947, Ingénieur INSA (1970), Docteur-Ingénieur (1973), Docteur d'Etat (1980), Robert Laurini, actuellement professeur (Classe exceptionnelle) à l'Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Lyon, plus précisément au Département Informatique et au laboratoire LIRIS, en charge des relations internationales. Il parle couramment français, anglais, italien et espagnol.
Récemment, il a été directeur adjoint du LIRIS, Laboratoire d'InfoRmatique des Images et des Systèmes d'Information (UMR 5205) de janvier 2003 à décembre 2006, et vice-président du Conseil d'Administration Restreint de l'INSA de Lyon de novembre 2002 à novembre 2006. De 2004 à septembre 2007, il a été responsable du Master Informatique de Lyon (Recherche).
Auparavant, il avait effectué des recherches un an à l'Université de Cambridge (1976-1977) et un an à l'Université du Maryland (1986-1987) et enseigné au Département Informatique de l'IUT (Université Lyon I) . Durant cinq ans, il a été directeur du Laboratoire d'Ingénierie des Systèmes d'Information (LISI), commun à l'INSA de Lyon et à l'Université Claude Bernard Lyon I (UCBL). De 2001 à 2004, il a été directeur du GDR CNRS SIGMA / Cassini sur les Systèmes d'Information Géographiques.
Il est membre de l'ACM et de l'IEEE Computer Society. En novembre 1998, il a reçu un "Technical Contributions and Leadership Award" de l'ACM. Il est président du steering committee du symposium ACM GIS.

Il a rédigé ou co-rédigé 5 livres dont "Ingénierie des Connaissances Spatiales", "Fundamentals of Spatial Information Systems" et "Les bases de données en géomatique". Le dernier livre intitulé "Information Systems for Urban Planning, A Hypermedia Cooperative Approach" est sorti en février 2001.
Ses centres d'intérêt portent principalement sur les systèmes d'informations spatiaux et multimedia ainsi que le raisonnement spatial et la télégéomatique (SIG + Telecom).
